Your body is the culmination of how you move, how you rest, what you eat, and what you think. On a spiritual level, your body is your vessel; it’s what connects you physically to the rest of the world and your growing baby. Your job, then, is to make those connections as pure as possible. This means eating wholesome food, wholeheartedly. It means moving with intention, possessing your body’s strength along with its possibilities. It means listening deeply to what it needs and responding with openness and kindness. It also means developing strong relationships with the like-minded and love-minded people in your life.
Yoga and meditation are powerful self-care tools with amazing benefits for both body and mind. They can be practiced together or separately, and you may feel a stronger pull toward one or the other, but both are well worth trying, especially as you journey into motherhood and encounter new physical, mental, and emotional stressors. Yoga and meditation help us to stay grounded, to check in with our bodies, and to engage more fully in the present moment.
As you are fully aware, your body is capable of amazing things. When you participate fully in its inward and outward nourishment, the benefits seep deeply into what you provide for your baby and what you bring to your life.
Benefits include:
- Boosting your mood
- Counteracting stress
- Decreasing depression and anxiety
- Increasing mindfulness
- Boosting immunity
- Aiding relaxation
- Increasing feelings of wellbeing
- Aiding the function of the brain and nervous system
- Increasing flexibility and strength (yoga primarily)
And researchers are finding more and more every day!
